Silab Finds Breakthrough for Skin Cell Detoxification

In order to maintain homeostasis, cells must rid themselves of superfluous and altered constituents. They can achieve this through two complementary mechanisms: proteasomes and autophagy. In the field of cosmetology, a lot of research has been carried out on proteasomes, while the autophagy process remained understudied. Inspired by research on the mechanism of autophagy carried out in the field of neurology, Silab has developed Celldetox, an active precursor extracted from yeast.

According to the company, the material boosts the autophagy system by stimulating the formation of autophagosomes responsible for sequestering altered cell constituents and delivers them to lysosomal degradation. This ingredient reinforces the cell detoxification process by reducing the level of oxidized proteins and peroxidized lipids.

Celldetox smoothes skin microrelief on cheeks and improves the complexion of “intoxicated” skin, according to Silab. It is recommended for regenerating, repairing and detoxifying skin care.

Skin Hydration from the Inside Out

One of the skin’s primary functions is to protect our body from external aggressions such as allergens, dirt, irritants and chemicals, as well as from water loss from the inside. Stressful environmental conditions—including weather and pollution—in addition to daily-use products, such as soap and surfactants, may alter the skin’s natural water balance and affect its protective functions.

To support the skin’s natural mechanism of moisturization, Laboratoires Sérobiologiques (LS), the active ingredients business of Cognis Care Chemicals, has designed Aqu’activ to restructure fragile skin by regulation of epidermal homeostasis.

A functional moisturizer, Aqu’activ helps to restructure the stratum corneum from the inside and to ensure an optimal condition of the epidermis, resulting in improved moisturization and elasticity, for strong and healthy skin, according to the company. It is composed of a calcium compound and a ceramidase inhibitor, and exhibits three main actions, which have been demonstrated in vitro to promote the structuring and stabilization of the stratum corneum.

Aqu’activ is preservative free and can be used for a wide range of skin care applications, including moisturization of dry and fragile mature skin.

Presperse Rolls Out New Emulsifier

Presperse has launched a new emulsifier to be used at very low levels, providing repair to damaged skin and hair, according to the company. Pellicer (INCI:Sodium dilauramidoglutamide lysine) is an all-natural, plant-derived ingredient that offers unique performance in the following ways: excellent dispersion at low use levels, liquid crystal formation in emulsion and biological activity to repair damage to skin or hair, according to the company.

Subliskin Is New from Sederma

Sederma is launching Subliskin, an active ingredient based on the new technology of glycokines—a natural sugar sequence that mimics structurally and functionally the oligosaccharide sequence found in the skin. According to the company, the ingredient contains specific oligosaccharides obtained by a symbiosis-like biotechnological process.

Hyaluronic acid, often used in plastic surgery to fill in wrinkles or increase volume, is a fundamental constituent of the extracellular matrix of the dermis, as well as the active epidermal layers. Within these layers, it creates a microsphere around the keratinocyte, serving as a molecular reservoir of water as well as other elements necessary for the cutaneous homeostasis. Sederma has demonstrated that Subliskin’s oligosaccharides have the ability to increase hyaluronic acid and its receptor CD44 synthesis as well as elastin and laminin-5 synthesis.

Stepan IntroducesAmmonyx LO Special

Stepan has expanded its amine oxide portfolio with the addition of Ammonyx LO Special, a naturally derived lauryl amine oxide. Stepan defines naturally derived as made from biorenewable feedstocks (derived from plant, animal or marine sources).

Ammonyx LO Special is ideal for efficient grease removal, lime soap dispersibility in neutral to alkaline pH and stability with hydrogen peroxide or sodium hypochlorite formulations.

Grant Expands Dispersions

Grant Industries, Inc. has added on to its line of silicone-in-water dispersions to offer a wider variety of solvent categories, according to the company. Specifically designed for formulation ease, Gransil SiW’s combine elastomer, solvent and emulsifier into one stable product, ultimately reducing the workload of the formulator.

Gransil SiW’s are cold mix compatible for added energy and cost savings, and allow for silicones and actives to be mixed in creative ways. New solvent options include the 100% Ecocert approved vegetable alkanes in Gransil SiW-GVL.
